Are you passionate about sustainability and ready to play a key role in managing Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) risks at ABN AMRO? We are looking for an experienced ESG Risk Analyst to join our Sustainability Risk Team. The banking sector is situated in a unique position to help build a more sustainable economy and society and at the same time managing the risks for the bank. ABN AMRO’s overarching goal is to accelerate the sustainability shift. We offer our clients specific expertise in sustainability and are embedding sustainability in our products and services. Our sustainable strategy is built on long-term ambitions in the areas of climate change, the circular economy and social impact. 

Your job

As a Senior ESG Risk Analyst you contribute to the development and execution of ESG risk analyses and guide decision-making, including the following particulars: 

• Translate ESG issues and demands from society and investors into actions for the bank 
• Take ownership in the team for delivering one or more key products, for example ESG heatmaps, ESG policies and risk appetite 
• Define and review climate transition plans 
• Contribute to the implementation of sustainable finance regulations by translating requirements into our risk management framework
• Support the development and coaching of junior colleagues, fostering their professional growth within the team

Working environment

Banking is the business of taking risks. However, which risks are acceptable and which are not? The Sustainability Risk Team identifies ESG risks, assesses the risks and addresses them with concrete measures. Moreover, the team is heavily involved in the implementation of sustainable finance regulations. We consist of an energetic group of people who share the same drive and vision for sustainability and long term value creation. The Sustainability Risk Team currently consists of ten dedicated professionals with a mix of experience in the field of ESG risk and risk management. We are in a phase of growth, actively expanding to meet increasing demand in the ESG risk landscape.  The Sustainability Risk Team is part of Central Risk Management department, that is besides sustainability risk, responsible for topics like, risk appetite, stress testing, and enterprise risk management. The Sustainability Risk Team works in close cooperation with colleagues from across ABN AMRO, including the Client Units, Sustainability Centre of Excellence, Sustainable Finance Regulations program,  Finance, Modelling and the Grids. 

Your profile

You are an analytical and hands-on thinker, a proactive individual whose actions embody our core values of Care, Collaboration, and Courage. As a Senior ESG Risk Analyst, you are resourceful, with a creative and entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving. You are eager to learn and grow, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality results. A self-starter by nature, you take initiative and have a strong drive to see tasks through to completion. This is on your resume:

• Master's or PhD degree in economics, finance, business, environmental science, material science or similar 
• Ability to quickly adapt to new ESG trends and expectations and impact on ABN AMRO
• You read our annual report and are enthusiastic about all the things we do and you see opportunities for further improvement 
• You know about the Green deal and the sustainability agenda of the European Central Bank 
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
• Ability to thrive in a flexible and collaborative environment while producing independent opinion and actionable recommendations 
• Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to present complex ESG risks to diverse audiences 
• Professional working proficiency in English is a must; professional working proficiency (especially spoken) in Dutch is strongly preferred 
• > 8 years of experience in Banking or similar, preferably in the area of sustainability and risk management

• The gross monthly salary displayed above is based on a 36-hour work week, including vacation pay and benefit budget. 
• The Benefit Budget is 11% of your salary. The Benefit Budget allows you to acquire additional employment benefits. If you make no purchases or reservations in the Benefit Shop in a given month, you are paid one twelfth of your Benefit Budget that month. 
• Five weeks of vacation per year. You have the option to purchase an additional four weeks per year. 
• Personal development Budget of € 1,000 per year, which you can accumulate up to € 3,000. 
• Possibility to work from home (in consultation with the team and depending on your position). 
• An annual public transport pass with free public transportation throughout the Netherlands.
